No DLC or Update Coming

After the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter (X) account posted a cryptic message on September 1st, fans began theorizing about upcoming DLC and updates. CD Projekt Red followed up with a reality check to clarify the situation.

"Just FYI, this isn’t any sort of announcement or reveal about new content coming to the game," the tweet stated. "It’s part of an activity tied to the Phantom Liberty anniversary we’re celebrating this month."

Solomon Reed, played by Idris Elba, looking forlorn in a shady Cyberpunk 2077 barBeyond hopes for another DLC or major content update, popular fan theories about the teaser include the addition of a New Game+ mode, more details on the confirmed sequel, or simply another photo contest. Given how decisively CD Projekt Red moved to quell unnecessary excitement, the truth likely lies in the latter.

Fans Aren’t Buying It

The screenshot shows a Cyberpunk 2077 scene where two women brutally assault a man while a third woman incessantly flips him the bird with both handsAlthough the game received its "final" update in July, this isn’t the first time CDPR has walked back claims of finality for their dystopian sci-fi RPG. The Phantom Liberty expansion and the accompanying 2.0 overhaul in September 2023 were intended to signal the end of updates, as many developers had moved on from the title.

Since then, CD Projekt Red has released three additional updates, further optimizing the game, introducing new vehicles, and adding numerous quality-of-life improvements and minor features. Consequently, players are skeptical about taking CDPR’s word at face value.

"I don't believe it. There is always something more with you guys," one fan responded, a sentiment echoed by several others.

Online fans have even dissected senior community manager Amelia Korzycka’s tweet regarding the tease, which read: "All I can say is it's not the DLC and it's not the patch."

Because Korzycka referred to potential additions as "the DLC" and "the patch," fans quickly concluded that both already exist. However, when pressed further on whether another expansion was in development, Korzycka left no room for interpretation by simply replying, "No."

Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty expansion are currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. For all the latest news on this CDPR title, check out our article below.
