Mahjong School: Mastering Japanese Riichi Mahjong
Mahjong School is your destination for learning how to play Mahjong. We specialize in teaching the Japanese style of Mahjong, which is very similar to the European (Riichi) and US styles. While it differs somewhat from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese variations, learning the Japanese style provides a solid foundation for easily adapting to other rulesets.
Mahjong School offers three primary methods to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.
1. The Mahjong Calculator.
Use the calculator to click and add tiles to your hand or declare TING, CHOW, PON, or CHI to form a winning hand. You can configure various conditions like DORA and self-draw. Once set up, the calculator computes your hand's Fu and points, complete with detailed explanations, including hand names.
2. The Simple Tutorial.
This tutorial provides a complete list of all Han values, each accompanied by an example hand and a clear description.
3. Practice Mode.
Play Mahjong directly against an AI opponent. The AI is designed for beginners, making it ideal for new learners. Practice is the most effective way to deepen your Mahjong skills.
Enjoy your learning journey!
