The highly anticipated Narnia reboot, crafted by the acclaimed writer and director Greta Gerwig, has announced Carey Mulligan as the latest addition to its expanding ensemble. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan joins an impressive lineup that includes former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, Sex Education star Emma Mackey, and legendary actress Meryl Streep.
Gerwig will helm the project once again, bringing her unique vision to C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. This upcoming film will adapt the series' prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, set prior to the events of the iconic tale, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan is slated to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the book's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will take on the role of the enigmatic magician and Digory's uncle. Meanwhile, Emma Mackey will embody a youthful version of the White Witch, and Meryl Streep will lend her voice to Aslan, the majestic and god-like talking lion central to the series.
This isn't the first time Narnia has graced the silver screen. Between 2005 and 2010, a trilogy based on the initial three books of the series was released, featuring Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan.
Gerwig's latest venture follows the success of 2023's Barbie, which achieved unexpected box office acclaim and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Original Song.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2026.
