During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works released an enthralling gameplay trailer for the game. The trailer offers a glimpse into the heart of Ratatan's mechanics, featuring a thrilling battle against a colossal boss crab.
Ratatan blends the rhythm-based gameplay fans adored in Patapon with roguelike elements and side-scrolling action. A standout feature is the online co-op mode, which supports up to 4 players, allowing for dynamic multiplayer experiences. Additionally, players can engage in epic battles with up to 100 characters.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on gaming consoles.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
Ratatan is gearing up for a closed beta test, set to commence on February 27, 2025, as announced on their Kickstarter page. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones.
The game has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback for its Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While Ratatan won't be part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is focused on enhancing the demo for the June festival.
Sakajiri outlined what players can expect from the closed beta: the initial build will include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added during the test period, which will span approximately one month. Further details on code distribution, start date, and time will be communicated via Discord and X as soon as they are finalized.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
