With its ongoing legal dispute with Nexon over Dark and Darker—and the mobile rebranding as Abyss of Dungeons—it’s clear the original hack-and-slash extraction dungeon crawler has faced some setbacks. But Asobimo Inc. has entered the arena with Torerowa!
Even better, Torerowa is set to launch very, very soon—on September 25th. While it draws heavy inspiration from Dark and Darker, it carves out its own identity by infusing the extraction dungeon-crawler formula with a vibrant, classic Japanese fantasy style.
In Torerowa, you step into the role of a classic JRPG hero exploring the treacherous dungeon of Restos. The deeper you venture, the deadlier the dangers—but the richer the rewards. And once you’ve filled your inventory, the real test begins: escaping alive.
Definitely dungeoneering
I’d be remiss not to mention that Torerowa has a somewhat budgeted visual style. While the environments and most assets are striking, the character models can feel a bit rough around the edges. Still, for an upcoming release, these are minor quibbles—this game has serious potential to resonate with players.
My guess is many of you enjoyed Dark and Darker in theory but wished for something a little brighter and more playful. If so, Torerowa’s colorful yet perilous world is likely to hit just the right note.
