Nonograms, known also as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, "Paint by numbers," and various other names, are engaging picture logic puzzles. These puzzles challenge you to color or leave blank the cells in a grid based on numbers provided on the grid's edges, ultimately revealing a hidden image. The numbers serve as a form of discrete tomography, indicating the count of unbroken lines of filled squares in any given row or column. For instance, a clue like "4 8 3" signifies sets of four, eight, and three filled squares, separated by at least one blank cell.
Solving a nonogram requires you to accurately determine which cells should be filled (boxes) and which should remain empty (spaces). Both decisions are crucial, as spaces later help in pinpointing where a clue's block can extend. Solvers typically mark certain cells as spaces with a dot or a cross.
It's essential not to guess; only fill cells that logic dictates should be filled. A single erroneous guess can spread and ruin the entire solution.
