2025 Alienware Aurora 16, 16X Gaming Laptops Now Available

by Aaron May 21,2025

Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its new mainstream lineup of 2025 gaming laptops, introducing the "Alienware Aurora" series. You can now purchase the first 16" models at Dell. The more budget-friendly option, the Alienware Aurora 16, comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the higher end, the Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. Both models are expected to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both laptops can be pre-ordered with RTX 5060 graphics, though these are still awaiting the release of the RTX 5060 itself, with no confirmed shipping date.

New Releases: Alienware Aurora 16 and 16X Gaming Laptops

The new Alienware Aurora laptops have moved away from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently launched Area-51. These laptops feature a sleek, minimalist design with a slim profile and no extra RGB lighting. The Alienware Aurora 16, for example, sports a simple white keyboard backlight, reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. Despite their understated exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are packed with high-performance gaming components and a powerful Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is designed to be thinner and lighter, thanks to its more efficient Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and the RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP. The Aurora 16X, while slightly thicker and heavier, accommodates a more robust cooling system to support its more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and RTX 5070 GPU with a higher 115W TGP.

Compared to the pricier Alienware Area-51, which starts above $3,000, these laptops are notably more affordable. They also offer enhanced portability, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a similar-sized Area-51 16" model. Given the potential upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices, as reported by Tom's Hardware, don't expect significant price drops in the near future.

Gamers should go with the Alienware Aurora 16X model

For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Aurora 16X is the clear choice. The $300 premium offers substantial upgrades, making it a worthwhile investment. Here's a breakdown of the enhancements:

  • Superior display: 2560x1600 resolution with 240Hz G-Sync vs. 2560x1600 at 120Hz
  • More potent CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs. Intel Core 9 270H
  • Higher TGP for RTX 5070: 115W vs. 85W
  • Double the RAM: 64GB vs. 32GB
  • Double the storage: 2TB vs. 1TB
  • Premium materials: Metal top and bottom vs. metal top only
  • RGB keyboard
  • Thunderbolt 4.0 connectivity
