Renewed enthusiasm for a new Star Wars Battlefront game has gained momentum through support from an actor in the acclaimed series Andor.
Over the past month, players have returned to 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2 in significant numbers, achieving record concurrent player counts on Steam years after developer DICE ceased official support.
Muhannad Ben Amor, who portrays rebel fighter Wilmon Paak in Andor, recently amplified fan demands for a sequel on social media platforms.
"Star Wars needs to deliver Battlefront 3 immediately," Amor expressed on Instagram (via Comicbook), disclosing his 469-hour playtime in Battlefront 2. "Been playing since launch day - I'm an original veteran," the actor added. "Here's hoping Battlefront 3 becomes reality."
The resurgence in Battlefront 2's popularity coincides with Andor's climactic second season and Star Wars' annual May 4th celebrations. After maintaining approximately 2,000 concurrent Steam players for years, the game now nears its all-time peak of 10,000 simultaneous players.
Does this renewed interest indicate increased likelihood for Battlefront 3? Currently, DICE remains focused on developing its next major Battlefield installment, expected to receive a full reveal this summer during ongoing player testing.
Potential hesitation from DICE may stem from Battlefront 2's controversial loot box system at launch, though public perception has since improved. While EA no longer holds exclusive Star Wars game rights, Respawn Entertainment continues developing Star Wars titles, including an anticipated third Jedi installment.
