Ant-Man Star Michael Douglas Says He's 'Had the Experience' of Marvel, Now Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym

Veteran actor Michael Douglas, known for his role as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has hinted that his time with the franchise might be over. Having graced the screen in all three Ant-Man movies, including the latest installment, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023, and a cameo in Avengers: Endgame, Douglas has expressed doubt about returning for future projects.

As production kicks off for Avengers: Doomsday, fans are left wondering if they'll see Hank Pym one last time. In a recent interview with Deadline, Douglas remarked, "I don't think so," when asked about his potential return to the MCU. He shared his enthusiasm for his previous experiences but emphasized his current enjoyment of life away from the camera. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it," he added, reflecting on his foray into the world of green screen filmmaking.

Douglas, who has largely stepped back from acting in recent years, focusing instead on his role as a producer, mentioned the challenges of juggling both acting and production. "It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time," he explained, indicating a preference for his current hiatus.

The actor had previously expressed a desire for a dramatic end for Hank Pym in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, hoping to elevate the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel decided against this narrative path.

The disappointing box office results of Quantumania have cast doubts on the future of the Ant-Man series. While Paul Rudd is confirmed to reprise his role in Avengers: Doomsday, the rest of the Ant-Man family's involvement remains uncertain. Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne might not make an appearance, especially following Lilly's announcement in June 2024 of stepping away from acting to focus on her family.

As for what fans can expect from Avengers: Doomsday, recent leaks from the set have teased the return of a notable location from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, adding an element of surprise and anticipation for the upcoming film.
