by Blake Dec 03,2025

Benedict Cumberbatch revealed his Marvel character Doctor Strange will bypass Avengers: Doomsday but assumes a pivotal position in its follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars. During a Variety interview, the actor humorously exclaimed "f**k it" after accidentally disclosing story details about his character's significant narrative function. "He's quite central to where things might progress," Cumberbatch noted, additionally confirming plans for a third Doctor Strange solo film.

Marvel's Future Plans for Doctor Strange

"The creative team remains enthusiastic about exploring future directions," Cumberbatch explained. "They're open to discussing potential writers and directors for the next installment. Which comic storylines should we adapt? How can we further develop Strange's character arc? He offers endless possibilities – a profoundly complex, flawed individual wielding extraordinary powers makes for compelling storytelling."

Regarding Strange's absence from Avengers: Doomsday, Cumberbatch attributed it to "narrative considerations rather than character limitations." The upcoming Avengers film features Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, with unconfirmed reports suggesting Chris Evans' involvement. While plot details remain undisclosed, the Russo Brothers' return as directors confirms the continuation of multiverse storylines, potentially including Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter.
