Guns Undarkness Will Launch Demo At Steam Next Fest
Mark your calendars for February 24, 2025, as Guns Undarkness will be showcasing its free demo at Steam Next Fest. This project is not only led by Shoji Meguro but also features the talents of Ghost in the Shell Character Artist Ilya Kuvshino and rapper Lotus Juice, known for his contributions to Persona 3. Meguro, who has been a part of Atlus since 1995 and worked on iconic titles like the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, ventured into indie game development in 2021 while still collaborating with Atlus. His latest endeavor, Guns Undarkness, is a Sci-Fi Stealth Action JRPG developed under Kodansha Game Creators Lab.
First unveiled at Indie Live Expo Winter 2021, Guns Undarkness successfully completed its Kickstarter campaign in 2022, surpassing its stretch goals. Following the demo at Steam Next Fest, the game is slated for an Early Access release later in 2025.
Inspired by Metal Gear Solid and Persona
According to its Steam page, Guns Undarkness is a "turn-based tactical JRPG inspired by games like Metal Gear Solid and Persona." Set in the year 2045, the game places you in the shoes of a member of a private military company tasked with missions that could save humanity from the brink of destruction. The gameplay is divided into two key sections: stealth and battle. In stealth mode, players must navigate the game world undetected, gaining an advantage in the ensuing turn-based battles where strategic use of firearms is crucial.
The demo for Guns Undarkness will offer approximately 20 minutes of gameplay, including a tutorial on basic controls, the battle system, weapons, and early game strategies. The full game is expected to hit Early Access in Spring 2025, offering around 10 hours of playtime on PC. While an exact release date has not yet been announced, the anticipation is building for this promising new title.
