Elden Ring Live-Action Film Adaptation Officially in Development
Directed by Visionary Filmmaker Alex Garland
The Elden Ring live-action movie is now confirmed to be in early development stages. The announcement was made jointly by Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24, signaling a major step toward bringing the game's dark fantasy world to life on the big screen.
At the helm of the project is celebrated filmmaker Alex Garland, known for his work on critically acclaimed films such as Ex Machina, Civil War, and Annihilation. The film aims to capture the "epic world and intense action" that defines the Elden Ring experience.
Produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, the production will also involve A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Details regarding the plot, casting, and release date are currently under wraps, but fans are eagerly awaiting further updates, which may arrive sooner than expected.
Elden Ring Continues to Shine in 2025
Although the Elden Ring movie won’t be arriving anytime soon, the gaming side of the franchise is stronger than ever, with several exciting releases lined up for 2025.
Originally released in 2022, Elden Ring quickly became one of the most celebrated titles in gaming history. It sold over 13.4 million copies within just five weeks and reached an impressive 30 million global sales by April 2025, as announced via the official Elden Ring X (Twitter) account. The game has also received over 324 Game of the Year awards across numerous platforms and ceremonies.
In 2024, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC expanded the already vast world of Elden Ring, earning widespread praise and maintaining the series’ high standard of excellence.
Looking ahead into 2025, FromSoftware is preparing two new entries for fans:
First is Elden Ring: Nightreign, a cooperative action spinoff set in the realm of Limveld. In this title, players assume the role of Nightfarers—heroes tasked with preventing the rise of the malevolent Nightlord. While retaining familiar elements from the original game, Nightreign reimagines them for a dynamic multiplayer co-op experience. It is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.
Secondly, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will serve as the definitive version of the game for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four exclusive armor sets, and customization options for all three variants of Torrent the Spectral Steed. Though not a launch title for the new console, it will arrive shortly after its release, offering Switch fans a complete Elden Ring experience.
