Developer Sandfall Interactive's next project will not replicate the formula of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Discover what the studio envisions for its upcoming title and learn about the undiscovered secrets still hidden within Expedition 33.
The Developer's Next Game After Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
New Title to Break from the Established Formula

Despite the overwhelming success of their debut game, Sandfall Interactive will not follow the same blueprint for their next project. Expedition 33 Creative Director Guillaume Broche provided additional insight into their future plans during an October 8, 2025 interview with The Washington Post.
The game is scheduled for a major update following its impressive sales of over 5 million copies within five months, yet discussions about the studio's next venture have been circulating. In May 2025, Sandfall Interactive COO and Producer François Meurisse confirmed that "another video game is definitely in the works," though its specific direction remains undetermined.

Broche shared this perspective, outlining the studio's approach to their next creative endeavor. While drawing inspiration from mechanics in popular games like Devil May Cry's parrying system and the Mario & Luigi RPG series' interactive enemy turns, he emphasized that their next game's direction remains open-ended.
The Creative Director elaborated: "We refuse to constrain our next project with predefined storylines, art styles, or gameplay mechanics. We're keeping our options open. Our focus is on creating something authentic, crafted with genuine passion."
Undiscovered Secrets Remain in Expedition 33

Although Expedition 33 has been available for over five months, dedicated fans continue to uncover hidden secrets. In an October 10 interview with Eurogamer, Broche revealed the game contains numerous Easter eggs and references to other titles, including Final Fantasy 8's Triple Triad card game.
However, certain secrets remain undiscovered. Broche noted: "Several secrets still exist, but I won't spoil them by revealing what they are. Perhaps they've been found already, but I haven't seen any evidence. Yes, there are definitely still a few hidden elements waiting to be discovered."
The Early Prototype of Expedition 33

The community recently unearthed an early prototype trailer of the game. Originally posted by Broche on Reddit in 2020, this draft trailer served as a recruitment tool for voice actors.
Broche described the experience of fans discovering these early iterations as "having everyone walk into my room and see my underwear," having completely forgotten the material remained accessible online. He commented: "It's amusing because we rarely get to see genuine behind-the-scenes game development footage, particularly those initial prototypes that often appear quite rough."

Meanwhile, Sandfall CTO and Lead Programmer Tom Guillermin viewed the prototype discovery more positively. He explained: "It's actually the same Unreal project we continuously refined through iterations until it became the final game people play. Demystifying the notion that great games emerge fully formed from the start benefits both the industry and aspiring developers."
The original project, titled "We Lost," featured a steampunk setting with fantasy boss battles before evolving into Expedition 33's Belle Époque-inspired world. This transformation suggests Sandfall Interactive's current project might undergo similar significant changes before its official reveal.

Despite these developments, fans remain captivated by Expedition 33 and eagerly anticipate the upcoming update featuring new environments, enemies, and challenging boss encounters. Combined with numerous bug fixes and interface improvements, the game appears poised to reclaim its position atop sales charts when the patch releases.
