Nintendo has unveiled our first detailed glimpse of a Nintendo Switch 2 game cartridge, just ahead of the console’s official launch next month.
The latest sneak peek comes from a video on the company's Nintendo Today app, which showcases the new official Nintendo Switch 2 carry case. This sleek design includes dedicated slots for securely storing up to six Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 cartridges.
As previously known, Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges maintain the same size and shape as those of the original Switch — ensuring that the Switch 2 console only requires one game slot to support titles from both generations. However, there is one standout visual distinction: the color.
Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges are now officially red — a consistent design choice across all titles, not limited to just the Mario Kart World cartridge featured in the video. Additionally, the top label of each Switch 2 cartridge features a fresh printed sticker bearing the "Switch 2" logo, distinguishing it from the original Nintendo Switch branding.
For those who don’t have access to the Nintendo Today app, the footage can be viewed via OatmealDome on X / Twitter [here].

Here's a look inside the official Switch 2 carrying case. It has room for the console with the Joy-Con 2 attached, six cartridges, and two Joy-Con 2 straps.

Beyond these changes, the physical design remains identical — including the intentionally bitter coating Nintendo applies to discourage accidental oral contact.
“We don't want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption,” said Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta in a previous interview with GameSpot. “We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you'll spit it out.”
