Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot attributed Star Wars Outlaws' underwhelming sales to the "turbulent period" currently facing the Star Wars fan community.
During a recent Q&A with investors, Guillemot avoided discussing the game's technical flaws, glitches, or criticisms about monotonous gameplay mechanics, stating instead: "Outlaws launched during a challenging phase for its parent franchise."
While recent Star Wars projects like The Rise of Skywalker and Disney+ shows such as The Book of Boba Fett and The Acolyte have indeed seen diminishing returns, fans find Ubisoft's attempt to blame franchise fatigue for Outlaws' reception somewhat dismissive.
Notably absent from Guillemot's comments were acknowledgments of the game's launch issues. Our Star Wars Outlaws review (which scored it a respectable 7/10) specifically cited repetitive fights and "an unacceptable number of technical problems at release."
The title also faced pre-launch controversy when Ubisoft faced allegations of "pushing ideological narratives," sparking heated debates about both the publisher and the unreleased game.
The franchise expanded in May with A Pirate's Fortune DLC, introducing Clone Wars favorite Hondo Ohnaka as Kay Vess's new partner across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms. This fan-favorite pirate, known from animated series and comics, guides players through new missions against the Rokana Raiders while exploring ancient ruins and completing smuggling operations.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version launches September 4.
