GTA 6 Delayed to 2026: Top Games to Play in 2025

by Hunter May 24,2025

The news we all anticipated has finally come to pass: the release of GTA 6, originally slated for 2025, has been pushed back to May 26, 2026. Despite this delay, 2025 promises to be a stellar year for gaming enthusiasts. We've already seen remarkable releases like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction, and the year is brimming with even more exciting titles. Whether you're seeking another samurai adventure with Ghost of Yotei, co-op chaos in Borderlands 4, or eagerly awaiting new releases from Nintendo, 2025 is set to deliver a plethora of gaming delights.

Here's a comprehensive look at what you can expect in the remaining months of 2025, aside from GTA 6:

What’s Next?

With GTA 6 now off the calendar for this year, you might have some free slots in your gaming schedule. Fear not, as several major releases are just around the corner. Doom: The Dark Ages will hit Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on May 15, offering a gothic twist on the beloved shooter. Not long after, on May 30, Elden Ring Nightreign will launch on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. This co-op roguelike is a fresh take on FromSoft's signature formula, promising to be a staple for multiplayer nights.

Moving into June, get ready for Hideo Kojima's next mind-bending journey with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set to release exclusively on PS5 on June 26. Its trailers tease an array of innovative and bizarre concepts, suggesting a game that will push boundaries far beyond its predecessor. Also in June, Dune: Awakening will debut on PC on June 10, where you'll need to watch out for those notorious sandworms and stay hydrated.

Switch 2

The highlight of the year, now that GTA 6 is out of the picture, is undoubtedly the Nintendo Switch 2, launching on June 5. Alongside it comes Mario Kart World, the console's first major game. On the same day, upgraded editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will be available, offering enhanced resolutions and frame rates. The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour will serve as a fun, mini-game-based tutorial, while a variety of third-party titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Spit Fiction, Street Fighter 6, Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fortnite will also make their way to the system.

June is just the beginning; on July 17, Donkey Kong Bananza will arrive, ensuring the Switch 2 isn't short on 3D platforming action. Later in the year, look forward to Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. And yes, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally set to launch on the Switch 2 and other platforms this year.

Big Hitters

As the year winds down, expect a flurry of blockbuster releases in the months leading up to the holidays. Although not officially announced yet, we can anticipate a new Call of Duty and EA Sports FC 26 around this time.

September will see the launch of two major shooters: Borderlands 4 on the 12th and Marathon on the 23rd. While Borderlands promises more of its signature kooky, violent fun with enhanced gun drops, Marathon, an extraction shooter from the creators of Destiny, is poised to make waves.

On October 2, PlayStation's long-awaited follow-up to Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei, will arrive, weaving a tale of vengeance against shadowy masked samurai. If Assassin's Creed Shadows left you craving more of this narrative style, Ghost of Yotei should satisfy that hunger.

Other highly anticipated titles expected to launch later in the year include The Outer Worlds 2 and Crimson Desert, although specific dates are yet to be confirmed.
