Illuminate Invasion Targets Super Earth in Helldivers 2 Update

by Hunter Oct 22,2025

Helldivers 2 introduces Super Earth maps for combat in the Heart of Democracy major update.

As revealed last week, the Heart of Democracy update — now available on PC and PlayStation 5 — brings the Illuminate invasion to Super Earth. Players can select missions in Mega Cities on our home planet and fight alongside SEAF soldiers.

The urban biomes feature operations aimed at liberating cities, which, according to developer Arrowhead, significantly influence planetary campaigns. This ties into Helldivers 2’s Galactic War, a community-driven storyline orchestrated by Arrowhead behind the scenes.

Here’s the official statement from the PlayStation Blog:

Helldivers face a new mission: repel the Illuminate invasion by securing ground against the enemy as they attempt to control landing zones. Expect a challenging fight, divers. Like an intergalactic tug-of-war, you’ll battle to hold or lose territory swiftly.

Players can activate Planetary Defense Cannons to destroy the Illuminate fleet, as seen in the trailer. SEAF troops will also join the effort to defend cities, fighting independently in small squads or following Helldivers’ orders for temporary support while moving toward objectives. Be cautious of civilians still in the streets; Helldivers 2 demands as much care to avoid friendly fire as it does to eliminate alien threats.

The Heart of Democracy update reflects Arrowhead’s commitment to sustaining Helldivers 2 for years after its record-breaking launch last year.

Last week, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani addressed concerns that the studio might shift focus to its next project, codenamed "Game 6."

"No way. It’s all about Helldivers 2 right now," he clarified. "A very small team will start exploring something new later this year, moving slowly. Helldivers remains our priority and will be for a long time."

So, how long will content updates for Helldivers 2 continue?

"As long as players keep engaging and purchasing Super Credits, we can keep it going," Jorjani explained, referring to the game’s virtual currency for Premium Warbonds. "Last summer, we hit a rough patch and thought we might not sustain it long-term, but we’ve turned things around. With your support, the future looks promising."
