Killer Instinct Gold is the newest Nintendo 64 title added to the Nintendo Switch Online library.
A Nintendo 64 adaptation of the arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2, Gold joins the original Killer Instinct in the growing catalog of classic games available to Online Expansion Pack subscribers.
Launched nearly three decades ago in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by British studio Rare, a key second-party developer for Nintendo during that era, known for titles like Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark on early Nintendo consoles. Players can choose from a roster of 10 dynamic fighters and engage in various game modes, "mastering countless moves and devastating Combos."
Rare, along with the Killer Instinct franchise, is now owned by Microsoft, making Killer Instinct Gold another Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the 2013 release of the Xbox One’s Killer Instinct, there has been no indication of Microsoft pursuing another sequel in the series.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service for the Nintendo Switch, offering online multiplayer features to compete or collaborate with friends, alongside a collection of iconic Nintendo games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and, with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. A complimentary seven-day trial is available.
Nintendo Switch 2 preorders began in late April, priced at $449.99, with demand exceeding expectations. While Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to high demand, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser assured IGN that the company expects to meet consumer demand through the holiday season.
