In celebration of its 15th anniversary, Metro is offering Metro 2033 Redux for free, but only for the next 48 hours. 4A Games made the announcement on Metro's official Twitter (X) account on April 14, stating that the game is available for free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.
This initiative aims to introduce new players to the series' origins. Additionally, 4A Games shared an update on their plans for the anniversary in a blog post on March 16. The post highlighted that throughout the year, fans can expect events, deals, and celebratory content across Metro's social media channels as a thank you to the community for their support.
4A Games, founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanded to Malta, draws inspiration from Dmitry Glukhovsky's science fiction novels, starting with Metro 2033. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing situation in Ukraine, the studio remains committed to addressing themes related to the conflict. They emphasized their safety and the need to manage expectations around the next Metro title's release, stating, "It will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has deeply influenced the narrative direction, with the developers stating, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022 a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
