Square Enix Reveals NieR 15th Anniversary Special Novel
Square Enix marked NieR’s 15th Anniversary with exciting announcements, including new events and projects. During the April 19 livestream, the company introduced a special online novel, [U]ndecided Option, for the NieR series.
The novel will roll out in three parts, with the first already released. The next updates are scheduled for April 25 and May 2. Its synopsis describes “a ‘servant’ encountering a mysterious boy and being drawn into an enigmatic journey.”
Square Enix also launched a dedicated NieR 15th Anniversary website, serving as the central hub for the novel and other anniversary-related projects and events.
Exhibitions, Concerts, and Exclusive Merchandise
An exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, will showcase new artwork featuring protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Details on tickets and dates will follow soon.
New performances for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 were announced for Osaka on July 25–26 and Tokyo on August 2–3. Tickets are available through a lottery system, with further details on the concert’s official website.
Square Enix also unveiled upcoming merchandise, including a jazz arrangement album from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024, a NieR Weapon Story book with over 650 weapon narratives from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of NieR’s protagonists.
Re[in]carnation Developer Blog Launch
NieR Re[in]carnation, the franchise’s first mobile game, will launch a developer blog series on April 28. Monthly updates will continue through the year, offering insights into the game’s creation process.
Released in January 2021 and discontinued in April 2024 due to monetization challenges, the game’s blog has sparked curiosity among fans. Many speculate about a potential sequel or remake, though no official confirmation has been made.
The livestream concluded with a 20-minute live performance featuring iconic NieR soundtracks. Square Enix promises more events and merchandise announcements for NieR fans in the near future.
