A fresh patent for a new Nintendo game controller has people speculating that a Ring Fit Adventure sequel is in development for the Switch 2.
The patent, discovered by the aptly named Nintendo Patents Watch, was filed in late May 2025 and became publicly available this week—although all accompanying images are currently redacted.
Nintendo is listed as the patent's owner, with its purpose described as "video game controllers (accessories)." Crucially, Nintendo employee Fumiyoshi Suetake is named as the specific designer of the controller.
Suetake played a key role in developing the original Ring Fit Adventure, which launched in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and has since sold over 15 million copies. The game comes with a pilates-ring-style accessory that players squeeze and pull during workouts.
Suetake's name appearing on the patent strongly hints that this unannounced controller could be a new Ring Fit accessory.
Nintendo Patents Watch also noted that Nintendo recently extended the patent for its original Ring Fit Adventure controller, indicating the company wants to maintain legal protection for an existing product.
Finally, manufacturing partner Foxconn has previously mentioned helping develop new "force sensing technology" for a gaming company and shared a diagram resembling an updated Ring Fit controller.

All signs point to a new Ring Fit Adventure game on the horizon, likely for the Switch 2. A sequel makes perfect sense for such a successful title—even if the original's sales were boosted in 2020 by homebound gamers looking for TV-friendly workouts.
"Ring Fit Adventure delivers a creative fitness RPG that isn't perfect but gets a lot right," noted IGN in its review, which highlighted the game's "fun and challenging blend of exercise and RPG mechanics."
