"Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online"

Despite Bethesda confirming that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not feature official mod support, the passionate fanbase hasn't let that stop them. Just hours after Bethesda and Virtuos shadow-dropped the reimagining for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, a handful of community mods surfaced on the popular site Nexus Mods. These early mods may be small in scope, focusing on customization, but they're a testament to the dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.

At the time of this article's publication, an impressive 22 mods were already available on the site. The first mod to hit the scene allowed PC players to personalize their desktops by replacing the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut with one of two images featuring the game's infamous Adoring Fan. Other mods include options to skip the introduction Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens, as well as tweaks to gameplay, such as a mod that adjusts the Wizard’s Fury spell and another that removes the compass.

This wave of early mods comes on the heels of Bethesda's announcement that Oblivion Remastered would not include official mod support. This was detailed in an FAQ section on its website, confirming that players would need to look elsewhere for their modding needs.

One notable mod, the Iron Longsword damage mod uploaded by Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming, aims to demonstrate that modding is still very much possible. In the mod’s description, GodschildGaming stated, “This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept.”

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered launched today, marking 19 years since the original game's release, and is available on PC and consoles. As more players dive in over the coming weeks and months, the modding community is expected to grow, offering increasingly creative ways to customize the gaming experience. While we await the influx of new mods, you can explore why some players consider today’s release more of a remake than a remaster and the reasoning behind Bethesda's choice to label it as "Remastered."
