This eagerly awaited season follows the July 11 release of Superman, which marks the grand launch of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film this summer.
Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran's revamped cinematic universe diverges from the previously criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements will persist. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having debuted in the DCEU with its first season, but now continuing into the new DCU with its second.
Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain undisclosed. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, with John Cena reprising his starring role. He will be joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.Moreover, Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly influencing the series' storyline.
