Ubisoft appears to be grappling with a streak of misfortune surrounding its unannounced game, Project U. The trouble began with gameplay leaks emerging as early as 2022, shortly after the initiation of the closed beta testing phase. These leaks have resurfaced two years later, indicating that the project is still in development. Adding to the turmoil, an introductory cinematic for the game has recently been leaked online, following what seems to be a reboot of the game's development.
The leaked cinematic's origin and authenticity remain unconfirmed by Ubisoft. It was shared by blogger Shaun Weber, who has a track record of leaking gaming content. Weber suggested that more videos from Project U could be leaked if the game continues its development cycle long enough.
Project U is anticipated to be a session-based cooperative shooter, taking inspiration from the success of Helldivers 2. According to the leaked footage, the game's narrative centers around an alien machine invasion of Earth, with players assuming the roles of chosen individuals tasked with thwarting this extraterrestrial threat.
As of now, Ubisoft has not provided any official statements regarding the formal announcement or release date of Project U.
