PS5 Price Rises Again in Europe, Australia, New Zealand

by Brooklyn May 18,2025

Sony has announced an increase in the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for PlayStation 5 consoles across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, effective from April 14. This decision comes in response to the "challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates," as stated by the company. The new pricing details were confirmed via a post on the PlayStation Blog.

In Europe, the PS5 Digital Edition will now cost €500, with no change to the price of the standard PS5 with a disc drive. In the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at £430, also with no change for the standard model. For Australia, the standard PS5 with a disc drive will be AUD $830, and the PS5 Digital Edition will be AUD $750. In New Zealand, the standard PS5 with a disc drive will be NZD $950, and the PS5 Digital Edition will be NZD $860. Notably, the price of the PS5 Pro remains unchanged.

This follows similar RRP hikes implemented in 2022, making the PS5 significantly more expensive in many regions compared to its launch prices. In Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition is now €100 and £70 more expensive than at launch, up from €400 and £360, respectively. In Australia, the standard PS5 has increased by AUD $80 from its launch price of AUD $750, while the digital edition has risen by AUD $150 from AUD $600. In New Zealand, the standard PS5 is now NZD $130 more than its launch price of NZD $820, and the digital version has increased by NZD $210 from NZD $650.

Interestingly, the RRP of the PS5 disc drive is being reduced to €80, £70, AUD $125, and NZD $140, providing some relief amidst the overall price hikes.
