Skyblivion, a Fan Remake of Oblivion in Skyrim's Engine, Is Still Targeting This Year

by Leo May 15,2025

Skyblivion, an ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion utilizing the engine of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is poised for a 2025 release. This monumental modding project, crafted by a dedicated team of volunteer developers, was highlighted in a recent developer update stream, where the team not only showcased their progress but also reaffirmed their commitment to a 2025 launch. "With your support, we aim to complete the final stages of our dream, potentially even surpassing our own timeline," the team expressed optimistically.

Describing Skyblivion as merely a one-to-one remake would not do justice to the extensive work being done. The developers are not just recreating Oblivion; they're enhancing it. From ensuring that unique items truly stand out to revamping existing bosses to meet their legendary status, the team is leaving no stone unturned. A notable example is the enhancement of the infamous "A Brush with Death" quest, which was beautifully showcased in their livestream.

Adding an intriguing layer to this project is the buzz surrounding a potential official remake of Oblivion. Earlier this year, alleged details of an Oblivion remake surfaced, hinting at revamped combat systems and other enhancements. Microsoft, however, remained silent on the topic when approached by IGN. Moreover, in 2023, documents from the Activision Blizzard/FTC trial inadvertently revealed mentions of an Oblivion remaster, alongside other projects like an Indiana Jones game, which has since been released. Yet, the status of the Oblivion and Fallout 3 remasters remains unconfirmed.

Should Microsoft and Bethesda decide to relaunch Oblivion, it could potentially impact Skyblivion. Bethesda's titles have historically embraced a vibrant modding community, from classic games to the more recent Starfield. Fans hope that Skyblivion won't face the same challenges that delayed Fallout London's launch. As we eagerly await 2025, the modding community remains hopeful that this passion project will reach its finish line without hitting rough waters.
