Star Wars Hunters Shuts Down 9 Months Post-Launch, Steam Release Canceled

by Anthony Jun 30,2025

Star Wars Hunters, the free-to-play team-based battle arena game developed by NaturalMotion and published by Zynga, is set to shut down completely just nine months after its launch. Initially released on Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms (iOS and Android) in June 2024, the game will receive its final content update on April 15, 2025, with servers scheduled to go offline permanently on October 1, 2025.

IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review, which awarded the title a score of 7/10, described it as "Impressive for a bit, but probably not a place you’ll want to hang around for too long." That sentiment appears to have been echoed by Zynga itself, which stated that after careful consideration, it has decided to conclude the game's lifecycle.

Zynga expressed gratitude to the player base, saying: “We understand this news may be disappointing and want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly. Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”

To help players make the most of their remaining time in-game:

  • On March 25, Season 5 will be extended by three weeks.
  • Events and shop bundles from the season will re-run, and the Ranked Season will also be extended to give players more chances to reach the top rank—Kyber 1.
  • The final content update arrives on April 15, and will be available for free across all platforms. In-game purchases will no longer be enabled after this point.
  • A new Support Hunter, Tuya, will be added to the roster and made immediately playable at no cost.
  • All existing game modes and battlefields will continue to rotate during the final phase.
  • Online play will remain active until October 1, 2025, when servers will officially close and the game will no longer be accessible.

Notably, there is no mention of the previously announced PC version in the shutdown announcement. The Steam page now states that the game is “no longer available on the Steam store,” indicating that plans for a Steam early access release have been quietly canceled.

For Zynga, Star Wars Hunters marked a significant step forward—it was the company’s first title to launch on consoles and was intended to be its first game to debut on PC. Back in November, Yaron Leyvan, Executive Vice President of Games at Zynga, had said: “The success of Star Wars: Hunters on mobile and Nintendo Switch devices has led to our decision to expand the game to PC. This is something our community of fans have been asking for, and we are very excited to welcome even more players to Vespaara.”

While Star Wars Hunters’ journey ends sooner than expected, several other major Star Wars games are still in development. These include Respawn Entertainment’s third entry in the Star Wars Jedi series and Bit Reactor’s upcoming turn-based tactics game, both of which are expected to be showcased at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
