Sydney Sweeney, fresh off her role in Madame Web, is set to star in the film adaptation of Hazelight's critically acclaimed game, Split Fiction. Announced just last month, the project is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the powerhouse behind the successful Sonic films, and is now gaining momentum with a formidable team coming together.
According to Variety, the film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Wicked, with the screenplay penned by the dynamic duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. With such an impressive lineup, Story Kitchen is currently shopping this talent package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a fierce bidding war.
The central intrigue revolves around which of the two sisters, Zoe or Mio, Sweeney will portray. This decision remains pending, adding to the anticipation surrounding the film.

Launched in March, Split Fiction has quickly become another triumph for Hazelight and its visionary designer, Josef Fares. Selling over 2 million copies within its first week, the game is also slated to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN praised it with a 9/10 score, describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, Split Fiction is a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."
Hazelight's success doesn't stop with Split Fiction. Another of its hits, It Takes Two, which sold an impressive 23 million copies, is also being adapted into a movie, with rumors swirling that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might take on a starring role.
While there's always a chance these adaptations may not come to fruition, the current boom in successful video game movies suggests Hollywood is eager to capitalize on this trend. Story Kitchen, not resting on its laurels, has also announced film adaptations of other games such as Square Enix's Just Cause, Dredge, Kingmakers, Sleeping Dogs, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.
Meanwhile, Hazelight is already stoking excitement for its next project, hinting at what's to come and keeping fans eagerly awaiting more details.
