Travis Willingham: Critical Role Video Game Announcement Imminent

by Nova May 27,2025

Excitement is building among fans as the renowned Dungeons & Dragons show, Critical Role, gears up to unveil its inaugural major video game. In a recent interview with Business Insider, CEO Travis Willingham hinted that an announcement could be just around the corner, saying it might happen “any day.” While details about the game’s title and its connection to the Critical Role universe remain under wraps, Willingham assured that the development team is diligently working on the project.

Willingham, who is not only an actor but also a star of Critical Role, co-founded the enterprise with fellow voice acting luminaries such as Liam O'Brien, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, and Matthew Mercer. Over the years, the D&D show has expanded into a vast universe of content, notably including the popular Amazon Prime Video series, Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina.

The upcoming video game is poised to stand alongside Critical Role's other ventures, potentially offering players a unique interactive experience within the world of Exandria. Willingham described the game as an opportunity for fans to "get their hand on the stick and control the outcome of the story," allowing them to influence the narrative and explore new stories and characters.

Though it's uncertain whether the game will follow one of Critical Role's existing campaigns or introduce an original story, anticipation continues to grow.

As we approach the expected announcement window, which was hoped to occur before the end of 2024 or early 2025, Willingham reflected on the broader gaming industry landscape. He noted to Rolling Stone that Critical Role's previous collaborations were exploratory, saying, “Those collaborations we’ve had with various partners have been little toe dips in the pool just to see how it feels.” He acknowledged the turbulence in the interactive entertainment sector and stressed the importance of understanding how Critical Role could contribute to this ecosystem thoughtfully.

While a specific release date for the Critical Role video game remains undisclosed, fans can stay engaged by checking out the first details on The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4.
