World of Warcraft enthusiasts in China have exciting news on the horizon: the introduction of the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar as rewards through two unique promotions. These mounts, exclusive to the Chinese region, are reimagined versions of the rare Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al’ar, both of which are highly coveted raid boss drops.
Following the successful reestablishment of the partnership between NetEase and Blizzard last year, World of Warcraft, along with other popular titles like Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, made a triumphant return to China. The celebration included the creation of a Lightforged Gorehowl statue and the introduction of the Xiao Liu pet with teleportation capabilities.
Now, WoW China is gearing up for another thrilling event, featuring these reimagined mounts. The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and the Golden Ashes of Al’ar will be available starting January 15, through twin promotions, and can be used in both modern and Classic versions of the game.
New Chinese World of Warcraft Promotion Mounts
- Blazing Royal Fire Hawk
- Golden Ashes of Al'ar
The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk, while resembling the Pureblood Fire Hawk from the Firelands raid in WoW: Cataclysm, includes distinctive xiangyun, or “auspicious clouds,” within its wings. These clouds symbolize peace, immortality, and good fortune, elements deeply rooted in Chinese culture for over 3000 years. On the other hand, the Golden Ashes of Al’ar is a resplendent version of the phoenix mount dropped by Kael’thas Sunstrider in The Burning Crusade’s The Eye raid. It features a sleek black saddle and flavor text that echoes Kael’thas' iconic line: “The golden Al'ar, beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, proves that death is merely a setback.”
The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk can be obtained through an event called the Treasure Workshop, although specifics about the event remain under wraps. Conversely, the Golden Ashes of Al’ar is available from Landro’s Loot Box, priced at ¥200 (approximately $27). Each box contains one of eight items, including other prestigious rewards like the X-51 Nether Rocket X-TREME and the Swift Spectral Tiger, a rare mount from the discontinued World of Warcraft Trading Card Game. Players can also join teams to buy these loot boxes, earning additional crates upon reaching specific spending milestones.
While the Xiao Liu pet has sparked hopes of an international release, there’s currently no indication that the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk or Golden Ashes of Al’ar will be available outside China. For now, players around the world can only admire these breathtaking mounts from a distance.
