Palace, also known as Shed, Karma, or "OG," is a classic card game that was a staple in my high school's study hall and cafeteria back in the 90s. This game has also gained popularity among backpackers, spreading its charm worldwide. Now, with the latest version 3.1.6 updated on August 7, 2024, the game has been enhanced with new options and features that users have requested, including the ability to pick up the pile at any time and the rule that a 7 forces players to play a lower card.
One of the most exciting additions is the option to play against friends. Whether you're looking to challenge your buddies or engage in friendly competition, Palace now offers the chance to play live against your friends. Additionally, you can test your skills against eight different computer characters, each with a unique playing style, adding variety and challenge to every game.
Basic Rules of Palace
To start, each player is dealt three 'face down cards,' which remain a mystery until the end of the game. On top of these, three 'face up cards' are placed. Finally, each player receives three cards to form their hand. You have the option to switch cards between your hand and the face up cards to strategize your gameplay.
The player with a 3 or the next lowest card initiates the game. On your turn, you must discard one or more cards of the same rank that are greater than or equal to the top card on the pickup pile. After discarding, draw cards from the deck to ensure you have at least three cards in your hand, unless the deck is depleted or you already have three or more cards.
In Palace, 2's and 10's serve as wild cards. A 2 resets the pile, while a 10 clears it entirely. Similarly, four of a kind, such as four 10's, also clears the pile. If you can't play a card higher than or equal to the top card of the pile or use a wild card, you're required to pick up the entire pile.
Once your hand is empty and the deck is exhausted, you proceed to play your face up cards. After playing all your face up cards, you move on to the face down cards. The first player to successfully discard all their cards emerges victorious.

The latest update, version 3.1.6, released on August 7, 2024, includes essential SDK updates to enhance the gaming experience. These updates ensure that Palace remains a smooth and enjoyable experience for all players.
