The objective of Tute is to be the first player or team to reach a predetermined number of points. The game utilizes the traditional Spanish deck, consisting of forty cards. The hierarchy of cards, ranked from highest to lowest, is as follows: Ace (11 points), 3 (10 points), King (4 points), Knight (3 points), Jack (2 points), and the white cards (7, 6, 5, 4, 2) which carry no points.
Gameplay begins with the first card setting the suit for the round. Players are required to follow suit if possible; otherwise, they can play any card, including trumps. The trick is won by the highest trump card played, or if no trumps are played, by the highest card of the initial suit.
