Earlier this year, Dell revitalized the iconic Alienware Area-51 lineup of prebuilt gaming PCs. Initially limited to a single graphics card option—the RTX 5080—customers can now upgrade to the powerhouse Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, paired with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU. This high-end configuration is available starting at $5,499.99, with Dell promising delivery as early as April.

The "base" configuration of the Alienware Area-51 with the RTX 5090 GPU, priced at $5,500, is anything but basic. It boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K CPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and a 2TB NVMe SSD. The Core Ultra 9 285K, Intel's latest flagship CPU, delivers exceptional performance for both gaming and workstation tasks. While it doesn't surpass the i9-14900K's performance as hoped, it remains Intel's top offering. The system is cooled efficiently by a 360mm all-in-one liquid cooler and powered by a robust 1,500W 80Plus Platinum-rated power supply.
New for 2025: The Alienware Area-51 Chassis
Dell showcased the revamped Alienware Area-51 at CES 2025. The new chassis retains the essence of the 2024 R16 model but introduces aesthetic and cooling enhancements along with updated components. The I/O panel has been relocated to the top, and the tempered glass window now covers the entire side panel. This design shift eliminates side panel vents, replacing them with air intakes at the bottom and front of the case, promoting a positive airflow for a cleaner interior. Internally, the system features a new motherboard, faster RAM, and a more powerful power supply to support the latest generation of CPUs and GPUs.
The RTX 5090 Is the Most Powerful Graphics Card Ever
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 stands as the most potent consumer GPU currently available. Despite Nvidia's focus on software enhancements, AI capabilities, and DLSS 4 technology, the RTX 5090 offers a significant 25%-30% increase in raw raster performance over the RTX 4090. It also features an upgraded 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, compared to the 4090's 24GB of GDDR6. However, due to high demand, the RTX 5090 is scarce at retail and often fetches $3,500-$4,000 on eBay.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 FE Review by Jackie Thomas
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 has officially surpassed the RTX 4090 in performance, albeit with a more modest generational leap than expected. In traditional non-AI gaming, the uplift is one of the smallest we've seen recently. However, DLSS 4 significantly boosts performance in compatible games, though it relies heavily on AI-generated frames."
