Crossplay in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6: A Balanced Perspective and How to Disable It

Cross-platform play has revolutionized online gaming, uniting the Call of Duty community but also introducing challenges. This guide explains the pros and cons of disabling crossplay in Black Ops 6 and how to do it.

The Crossplay Dilemma

Disabling crossplay is a strategic decision with significant implications. Many players, particularly console users (Xbox and PlayStation), aim to level the playing field by avoiding PC players. PC players often enjoy a competitive edge due to the superior precision of mouse and keyboard controls compared to controllers. Furthermore, the prevalence of cheats and hacks, despite anti-cheat measures like Ricochet, is a major concern. Disabling crossplay theoretically reduces encounters with cheaters.

However, this comes at a cost. Disabling crossplay drastically shrinks the player pool, potentially leading to longer matchmaking times and less-than-ideal connections with other players.

Disabling Crossplay: A Step-by-Step Guide

Turning off crossplay is simple. Locate the "Account & Network" settings. Within this menu, you'll find the "Crossplay" and "Crossplay Communications" toggles near the top. Simply switch them from "On" to "Off" using the X or A button. This can be done in Black Ops 6, Warzone, or the main Call of Duty menu. Note: The image below shows the setting added to Quick Settings for easier access.

Important Considerations

You may find the crossplay setting greyed out in certain game modes, such as Ranked Play. Previously, Call of Duty mandated crossplay in some modes, but this restriction is expected to be lifted in Season 2 of Black Ops 6, giving players more control over their matchmaking experience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
