It looks like Buffy might be slaying again at Hulu.
According to Variety, a reboot of the iconic series Buffy the Vampire Slayer is nearing realization at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in discussions to return as the legendary vampire hunter. Although the series will introduce a new Slayer, Gellar is expected to appear as a recurring character, bringing her iconic presence back to the screen.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao, acclaimed for her work on Nomadland and Eternals, is in negotiations to direct and executive produce the reboot. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are set to write and act as showrunners for the series. Notably, the original series creator Joss Whedon will not be involved in this new project.
It's worth mentioning that Whedon faced accusations of fostering a toxic work environment during the production of the original *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and its spinoff, *Angel*.Details on the plot are still under wraps, but the focus will be on a new Slayer, with Gellar potentially reprising her role as Buffy Summers.
The original series followed Buffy Summers, a high school student destined to fight demons, vampires, and other supernatural beings. Alongside her were her loyal friends Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris, and her mentor, Watcher Rupert Giles.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired from 1997 to 2003, spanning seven seasons. During this period, a spinoff, Angel, was also produced, and the story continued through a series of canon comic books.
