Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has chosen to delay its first in-game event to prioritize crucial quality-of-life enhancements. Firaxis Games announced this decision in their update on February 28, 2025, along with a Development Roadmap outlining upcoming changes for Civ 7.

The anticipated Update 1.1.0 is set to roll out on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate schedule for Nintendo Switch. Originally slated for this update, the game's first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," has been postponed. Firaxis Games explained, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access phase, Civilization 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism aimed at its user interface. Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games previously stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will directly address community feedback and suggestions. While the complete update notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis Games has provided a sneak peek at what players can expect.

Players can look forward to exploring a new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, at no additional cost. A much-anticipated update to the UI will address player concerns and feedback. Additionally, significant changes to the Modern Age's Cultural Legacy Path and Victory will enhance AI leaders' ability to achieve a Cultural Victory.

Simultaneously, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. According to the announcement, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025

Civilization 7's commitment to ongoing improvements continues with the next major update planned for March 25, 2025, though this date may be subject to change. This update will further refine the game's UI, as Firaxis Games emphasizes, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking ahead, Civ 7 aims to introduce more enhancements and refinements, including a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue beyond the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.

Firaxis Games stated, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
