Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 boasts a cast of unforgettable characters, but none may capture hearts quite like Esquie, the game's endearing giant companion who could easily be mistaken for a mascot. Sandfall Interactive, the game's developer, has issued a warning about the proliferation of fake merchandise surrounding Esquie, while also hinting at the development of an official Esquie plush.
In a recent post on X/Twitter from the official Expedition 33 account, Sandfall Interactive highlighted the emergence of several "suspicious" websites selling Esquie plushies. "To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed," the studio emphasized. They cautioned that many of these sites use AI-generated artwork for advertising and advised against purchasing from these sources, as they could be scams.
On a brighter note, Sandfall confirmed that they are actively working on creating official Esquie plushies and are eager to release them as soon as possible. "In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!" the studio urged fans.
For those who have experienced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the appeal of an Esquie plushie is clear. Introduced in Act 1, Esquie serves as both a helpful companion and a mode of overworld travel, reminiscent of Baymax from Big Hero 6. This connection makes the demand for an Esquie plush understandable, and it's reassuring to know that Sandfall is addressing this with an official product. A quick Google search reveals both unofficial sites and discussions about Esquie plush sellers, but fans will need to wait for the authentic version from Sandfall and Kepler. There's no word yet on whether the real-life plushie will include a wine-filled feature.
Last week, Sandfall Interactive rolled out patch 1.2.3 for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which included balance adjustments to Maelle's Stendhal ability. Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron recently lauded the game, describing its developers as a "shining example of French audacity and creativity."
