Ghost Recon Game Nears Internal Alpha: Report

by Julian Feb 15,2026

The next major entry in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon franchise is set to enter internal alpha testing in the coming months.

This report comes from Insider Gaming, which states the shooter, internally codenamed 'Over', will begin its alpha phase this Fall (Q3). With testing expected to last approximately 12 months, the outlet estimates a potential release window of Fall 2026 for the new Ghost Recon.

News of the project first emerged around the time Ubisoft confirmed it was halting all new development for 2019's Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Reportedly in development at Ubisoft ever since, it was initially clear the series was undergoing a comprehensive reboot, necessitating a longer development timeline.

When contacted by IGN, an Ubisoft representative stated: "We do not comment on rumour or speculation."

IGN's review of Ghost Recon Breakpoint awarded it a 6/10. Our assessment noted: "Breakpoint follows Ubisoft's open-world formula to deliver initial enjoyment, but a repetitive nature and inconsistent elements strip it of a distinct identity."

Earlier this year, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (approx. $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese giant Tencent.

This development closely followed the launch of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which recently surpassed 3 million players. Ubisoft endured a series of notable commercial failures, staff reductions, studio shutdowns, and project cancellations leading up to the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows, placing immense pressure on the title to perform following a historic low in the company's share price.

In 2022, Ubisoft canceled development of Ghost Recon Frontline a year after its announcement. The project was intended as a free-to-play, 102-player battle royale spin-off but ultimately never launched.
