Marvel is reportedly planning to revive a villain from the earliest Marvel Cinematic Universe installment, Iron Man, in the forthcoming Vision Quest series.
Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will return as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar—a character featured in Iron Man’s opening scenes—nearly two decades later. In the 2008 film, he led an Afghanistan-based terrorist group that held Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark hostage inside a cave, before being double-crossed by Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane.
Though Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar only appeared during the first 30 minutes of Iron Man, his upcoming comeback mirrors characters like Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk, who is set to return in Captain America: Brave New World. Vision Quest will follow Paul Bettany’s White Vision after the events of WandaVision. A release date has not yet been announced.

Initially depicted as a standard terrorist leader, Hamidmi al-Wazar’s backstory was deepened years later during Phase 4 of the MCU. His group was later referenced as the Ten Rings—a nod to the comic lore—before receiving further development in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Consequently, Hamidmi al-Wazar has been retroactively established as a commander within the Ten Rings organization, overseeing its Afghanistan terrorist faction. With Shang-Chi leaving multiple narrative threads for future stories, his return could connect the film’s world with the events of Vision Quest.
Similarly to how Deadpool & Wolverine explored lesser-known corners of the former Fox Marvel universe, Vision Quest may delve into overlooked elements from the official MCU.
Ultron actor James Spader is also rumored to reprise his role for the first time since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Beyond these details, little else is known about the series at this time.
