Stardew Valley: A Commitment to Free Content
Barone's Promise to Fans
Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, the mastermind behind Stardew Valley, recently reaffirmed his dedication to providing free updates and DLC to his loyal fanbase.
In a recent Twitter (X) post, Barone provided an update on the progress of various ports and updates for the game, stating, "The ports and next PC update are still in progress. I know it is taking a long time, it's on my mind every minute. I have personally been working on the mobile port every day. I will announce when there is any meaningful news (e.g. a release date). Hope you're having a good summer."
Responding to a fan's comment suggesting that free additions would prevent complaints, Barone emphatically declared, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This strong statement guarantees the continued free expansion of Stardew Valley.
Stardew Valley, a beloved farming simulator/RPG released in 2016, has consistently benefited from Barone's dedication to significant updates. The recent 1.6.9 update boasts features like three new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, new outfits, enhanced late-game content, and various quality-of-life improvements.
Barone's commitment might extend beyond Stardew Valley, as he is also developing Haunted Chocolatier. However, details about this new project remain scarce.
Working solo on Stardew Valley, Barone's statement underscores his respect for the gaming community. His challenge to fans – "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath" – further solidifies his promise of continued free content for this seven-year-old game.
