The cameras are now rolling on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark this exciting milestone, DC Studios head James Gunn took to Bluesky to share the first glimpse of Milly Alcock stepping into the iconic role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. In a celebratory post, Gunn unveiled a photo of Alcock seated in her actor's chair, marking a symbolic first look at the character.

"Thrilled to see camera roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El," Gunn shared in his post. This announcement confirms that Craig Gillespie, known for directing hits like Cruella and I, Tonya, will be steering this superhero epic, as previously reported in April.

While details on the plot remain under wraps, it's confirmed that the film will draw heavily from the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The acclaimed comic follows a standalone narrative of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel earned a nomination for "Best Limited Series" at the 2022 Eisner Awards and is highly recommended for those yet to experience its gripping story.

The cast for the film is shaping up impressively, with Matthias Schoenaerts taking on the role of Krem and Eve Ridley portraying Ruthye. The ensemble also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father, Zor-El, Emily Beecham as her mother, and Jason Momoa, who will be reprising his role in the DC universe as Lobo.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be the second film in the newly rebooted DC universe, following James Gunn's Superman, slated for release this summer. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II, which might or might not connect to Gunn's broader cinematic universe, and a rumored Clayface movie from acclaimed director Mike Flanagan.
