World of Warcraft has postponed the return of its second Plunderstorm event to address some unexpected technical issues. While Blizzard still aims to launch it before the end of January 14th, players will have to wait a bit longer to dive back into this pirate-themed battle royale mode.
Introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, Plunderstorm is a limited-time battle royale experience. Its return was announced for January 14th, 2025, promising both original and new rewards for participants to earn.
However, the rollout has encountered complications. The scheduled six-hour maintenance window was extended to eight hours, with servers originally slated to come back online at 3 PM PST. In a forum update, community manager Kaivax cited "unexpected issues" causing a further delay. Although the team hopes to have Plunderstorm live before the day ends, no specific new time has been announced.
When Will Plunderstorm Go Live in World of Warcraft?
- Before the end of January 14th, pending resolution of the technical issues.
On a positive note, World of Warcraft's primary servers are back online. Players waiting for Plunderstorm can log in to complete Siren Isle weekly quests, participate in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other content from The War Within expansion.
This iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new elements like the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible from a character screen. It's possible these additions contributed to the launch problems. The development team is working to resolve them swiftly so the event can begin.
Fortunately, the delay does not affect the ongoing Plunderstorm Twitch Drops campaign. Viewers can watch any stream in the World of Warcraft Twitch category for four hours before February 4th, 10 AM PST to earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Progress toward this reward is not tied to streamers playing Plunderstorm specifically, allowing fans to start earning immediately while awaiting the mode's launch.
