Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Now Streams Select Games on Consoles

by Aiden May 04,2025

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members have just received an exciting new perk: the ability to stream select games directly to their consoles without the need for downloading. This update was shared in a recent Xbox Wire news post, which detailed that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can now stream games from the Game Pass catalog and even "select games they own" on their Xbox Series X, Series S, and Xbox One consoles via cloud streaming.

Previously, this feature was available on smart TVs, PCs, smartphones, and Meta Quest headsets, marking this as the first time it's been extended to consoles. This advancement allows users to bypass the often time-consuming process of downloading games and helps conserve valuable hard drive space.

To utilize this streaming feature on an Xbox console, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to My games & apps > Full library > Owned Games.
  • Games that are available for cloud streaming will be marked with a cloud badge on their game page. You can use filters to locate these games more easily by selecting Filter > Ready to play > Cloud gaming.
  • To begin playing, select the desired game and choose Play with Cloud Gaming. You can also start streaming directly from the Store app after purchasing select cloud-playable games.

Additionally, users can stream any game installed on their Xbox consoles to devices with supported web browsers using this link. Note that this feature is no longer supported on the Xbox mobile app, but remains accessible on phones via the browser link. Xbox is also working on extending this capability to Samsung and Amazon Fire smart TVs, as well as Meta Quest headsets.

In another development, Xbox has announced that starting this month, Xbox and Xbox 360 backward compatible games will also support remote play.

These updates are part of Xbox's broader initiative to optimize storage space on their consoles. The Xbox Wire post highlights a new feature within the console's settings that provides recommendations for managing hard drive space, which can be accessed via My Games & Apps > Manage.

Xbox's focus on enhancing storage capabilities comes in response to the growing size of game installations, such as those seen in games like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate 3. For those who still require additional storage despite these improvements, we've outlined some of the best storage solutions for the Xbox Series X and S. This is particularly useful if you're not keen on investing in the newer Xbox models that boast increased built-in storage.
