Learn to read by pronouncing the sounds of letters, rather than their names.
Learn to read.
The second key participant in the child's learning journey is the adult who guides them. This adult can engage in specific exercises with the child, letting them observe mouth movements and understand how to shape their lips to produce sounds accurately.
To support this, we choose a set of alphabet letters—those that are simplest—and use them to form animal names and common everyday words. In this program, we emphasize the SOUND of each letter, not its name.
Initially, adults should practice together with the child, remembering that reading is a gradual process. Later, the child can use the app independently, with adults rejoining for shared practice periodically. After some time, adults can visit the “Discover the Word” section and complete a sequence of activities with the child:
1- Ask the child to articulate the sounds of the letters that form the word TREE.
2- After practicing for a bit, ask: What did you say?
3- Never reveal the word the child has spoken.
Repeat this process, encouraging the child to say the sounds for the letters in “tree” more quickly. This reduces the pause between each sound. Continue the exercise without giving in to the temptation to tell the child the word. One day, when you ask, “What did you say?” the child will respond, “I said TREE!” That’s a moment to celebrate—the child has started reading.
Soon, you’ll notice a growing eagerness to read every word encountered. This is the ideal time to gradually introduce more complex letter patterns, such as the letter C, which can have a soft sound (as in “sky”) or a hard sound (as in “house”) depending on the letters around it. You can also introduce other alphabet letters not included earlier. Always remember to respect each child’s pace and unique learning journey.
