FortiToken Mobile is a robust One Time Password (OTP) generator application designed for mobile devices, providing both event-based and time-based authentication methods. As an OATH compliant app, it serves as the client component in Fortinet's comprehensive solution for MultiFactor Authentication (MFA), which includes FortiOS, FortiAuthenticator, or FortiToken Cloud for OTP validation.
Privacy and Control:
FortiToken Mobile prioritizes your privacy and security. The app does not have the capability to alter settings on your device, capture photos or videos, record or transmit audio, or access your emails. It also does not track your browsing history. To maintain its functionality, the app only requires your permission for notifications or to modify settings. Importantly, FortiToken Mobile cannot perform a remote wipe of your phone. The app's limited visibility into your device is solely for checking the OS version to ensure compatibility with the app version. During manual token setup, you may need to input sensitive data such as an email address or token seeds for FortiToken tokens, third-party tokens, and token transfers.
Permissions and Operations:
While FortiToken Mobile operates without changing settings without your consent, it does require the following permissions for seamless functionality:
- Camera Access: Allows for easy token activation through QR code scanning.
- TouchID/FaceID: Enhances app security by leveraging biometric authentication.
- Internet Access: Essential for token activation and receiving push notifications.
- "Send Feedback by Email": Automatically populates the "Sender" field for user convenience.
- File Sharing: Enables the app to prepare attachments for the "Send Feedback by Email" feature.
- Keep Device Awake: Prevents data corruption during internal database upgrades by keeping the phone awake.
