by Leo Mar 27,2025

HBO's critically acclaimed series, The Last of Us, is set to captivate audiences for four seasons, according to executive Francesca Orsi. While Orsi hinted that "it's looking like" the show will extend for three more seasons beyond the current one, she was quick to add that there's no "complete or final plan" set in stone at this time. "I wouldn't want to confirm that, but it's looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done," Orsi shared with Deadline.

With the eagerly awaited return of the series slated for April 2025, viewers can anticipate deeper dives into the post-apocalyptic world. Orsi teased new elements that will explore "various factions competing for survival," introducing a compelling survivalist group. "There's a certain way [the show] is presenting them in wardrobe and makeup that feels really different than the average person," she noted, hinting at the unique aesthetic that will set these characters apart.

The Last of Us Season 2 Cast: Who's New and Coming Back to the HBO Show?

11 ImagesFor those who haven't yet experienced the gripping narrative of the first season, there's still time to get caught up before The Last of Us returns. Season 2's premiere is scheduled for April, and unlike the first season, which adapted the entire first game, HBO has decided to spread the story of The Last of Us Part 2 over multiple seasons. Specifically, Season 2 will conclude after seven episodes, setting a "natural breakpoint" in the storyline.

Season 2 will introduce fresh faces to the ensemble, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. While the role of Catherine O'Hara remains shrouded in mystery, fans are eager to see how her character will fit into the expanding universe.

IGN's The Last of Us: Season 1 review praised the series as "a stunning adaptation that should thrill newcomers and enrich those already familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey alike," earning an impressive 9/10 score. As anticipation builds, The Last of Us continues to set the standard for video game adaptations on television.
