11 bit studios has unveiled Frostpunk 1886, a reimagined version of the original game slated for release in 2027.
The Polish developer is leveraging Unreal Engine 5 for this project, announced just months after Frostpunk 2’s debut. The original Frostpunk launched in 2018, meaning the remake will arrive nearly a decade later.
Frostpunk is a city-building survival game set in an alternate 19th-century world gripped by a volcanic winter. Players construct and manage a city, balancing resources, making critical survival decisions, and exploring beyond the city for survivors and supplies.
IGN’s review of Frostpunk awarded it a 9/10, praising its “engaging and unique strategy blend, despite occasional complexity.”
Frostpunk 2 earned an 8/10 from IGN, noted for its “larger, more politically intricate scale, though less personal than the original.”
11 bit studios emphasized ongoing support for Frostpunk 2, including DLC and a planned console release, alongside development of Frostpunk 1886.

11 bit studios shared that fans can expect Frostpunk 2 and Frostpunk 1886 to evolve together, each shaping the franchise’s vision of survival in a frozen world.
The studio is also developing The Alters, set for release in June.
