Remedy's Control spin-off shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. Though the game is available at no extra cost for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio celebrated this as a "major achievement" while acknowledging "there's more work to be done."
"Our player count crossed 1 million last night in FBC: Firebreak. This is a major achievement, and we want to thank everyone at Remedy for your support," the studio announced on social media.
"We recognize there's still work ahead, and we're incredibly energized by the challenge. Exciting updates are in development for Firebreak players! Stay tuned for more details soon."
Recently, the development team identified issues with "the initial gameplay experience," noting that FBC: Firebreak's opening hours fell short due to onboarding problems, unclear systems and tools, plus "insufficient guidance about completing Jobs effectively." The studio also acknowledged: "early weapons feel underpowered, and upgrading requires excessive grinding."
"While the narrative occasionally feels thin, there's genuine enjoyment in battling bizarre creatures within Remedy's delightfully surreal workplace setting," we observed in IGN's ongoing FBC: Firebreak review. "Further testing this chaotic co-op experience will determine our final assessment."
Remedy has outlined robust post-launch support plans, including two free Job missions arriving in 2025, with more updates planned for 2026. All gameplay content will remain free, with optional cosmetic purchases that don't impact performance. The studio confirmed no artificial engagement mechanics like daily log-ins or limited-time rotations.
The Alan Wake creator currently juggles multiple projects beyond FBC: Firebreak, including development of Control 2 and the Max Payne 1&2 remake collection.
