Hornet's Cloak Removal in Silksong Sparks Player Curiosity

by Stella May 28,2025

Yesterday, IGN announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum starting in September 2025, and they shared a sprite sheet from the eagerly awaited game. The internet, as expected, went into a frenzy.

A Reddit thread discussing the sprite sheet led to a flurry of comments, with one user asking, "In what situation [is] making a sprite of naked Hornet necessary?" The sprite sheet features various poses of Silksong's protagonist, Hornet, including one where she's casually holding her cloak under one arm. This particular image, found on the right-hand side of the original sheet, sparked a mix of confusion and amusement.

"What kind of situation in-game calls for her to remove her cloak and hold it like she's an exhausted dad returning from work? This is cursed," remarked a Redditor. Another questioned its authenticity, stating, "Is this real???? There’s no way this is a sprite that is going to be in Silksong. Is that just what she looks like????" The curiosity escalated with another user exclaiming, "IN WHAT KIND OF SITUATION WOULD THEY EVEN NEED THIS SPRITE?"

The conversation took a playful turn with some users humorously suggesting that the game might need an ESRB 18+ rating due to this sprite. Comments ranged from "So, we don't have to bother making a mod," to "HORNET PUT YOUR CLOAK BACK ON THAT'S SO INDECENT WHAT THE HELL," and "this is completely unnecessary." One user simply stated, "I do not like this."

While the purpose of this sprite remains unclear, a plausible theory is that it might relate to upgrading or changing Hornet's cloak. Until more is revealed, fans can let their imaginations run wild.
