Great news for Sam Fisher enthusiasts: Ubisoft has shown it hasn’t forgotten Splinter Cell by integrating Steam Achievements into the 2013 title Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
While the latest significant update on the Splinter Cell Remake came in 2022, when IGN discussed the game’s design approach with Ubisoft Toronto developers, the studio recently updated the achievement list for the 12-year-old Blacklist on Steam without fanfare.
Ubisoft announced: "Agents, we’re thrilled to share that Steam Achievements are now live for Splinter Cell: Blacklist!"
The achievements will be "automatically awarded for milestones already achieved in your game," though you’ll need to launch the game at least once. "After syncing, any previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will seamlessly transfer to Steam," the team noted.
In addition to implementing achievements that can be "retroactively unlocked," Ubisoft opted not to include the 19 online achievements available on consoles, ensuring players can still fully complete the game on Steam.
The stealth-action franchise is poised for a comeback with a remake of the original Splinter Cell Remake. Details remain scarce, but the new version will be rebuilt using the cutting-edge Snowdrop engine.
“Two decades later, we can revisit the storyline, characters, and overall narrative of the game [and] refine elements that may not have aged well,” said creative director Chris Auty at the time. “Yet, the essence of the story and experience will stay true to the original.”
Last month, Ubisoft established a subsidiary focused on its Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six brands, backed by a €1.16 billion (roughly $1.25 billion) investment from Chinese giant Tencent.
This followed Ubisoft’s announcement that Assassin’s Creed Shadows surpassed 3 million players. The company faced several high-profile setbacks, layoffs, studio closures, and game cancellations leading up to Shadows’ release, with significant pressure to succeed as its share price hit a historic low.
